Local Alert Weather – Tues. PM

Happy Tuesday evening, everyone!

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING GOES INTO EFFECT TOMORROW AFTERNOON FOR THE HIGH DESERT. DAYTIME HIGHS WILL BE IN THE UPPER 90S AND LOWER 100S BRINGING US OUR HOTTEST DAYS OF THE YEAR SO FAR. OVERNIGHT LOWS WILL BE QUITE WARM AS WELL. KEEP AN EYE ON CHILDREN, ELDERLY, LIVESTOCK, PETS, AND PLANTS.

Overnight we’ll see smoky skies with mostly clear skies overhead. Temperatures will be in the low to mid 50s for overnight lows, which is nearly 10 degrees above average. Winds will be light out of the southwest around 5 to 10 miles per hour.

Tomorrow we’ll wake up to smoke and will likely see our air quality levels go from ‘moderate’ to ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’ at some point on Wednesday.

Our hottest day of the year is likely with temperatures forecasted in the 100s. The hottest day so far is 101 degrees back on July 13. We’re looking to get to 104 in Redmond (105 is the record, so we’ll get close). Overhead we’ll see smoke and mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies.

Overnight lows will be in the 50s and 60s for the next few nights, so we won’t see much relief. Smoke will likely increase, so this means if you do not have access to air conditioning, you’ll likely have to deal with smoke if you have to open your windows.

Hot temperatures stay with us through Thursday and we’re looking to break a record. The previous record for Thursday’s date is 103 degrees and our forecasted high is 105.

By the end of the week our winds will kick up as a trough moves into the region. High pressure will exit as a result and we’ll see much cooler temperatures. In fact, a 20 degree temperature swing from Thursday to Saturday is likely.

This weekend we’ll see highs back to average in the 80s with mostly sunny skies. Smoke will likely decrease with a change in the weather.
