A 74-year-old motorcyclist from Bellingham, Washington resident died Wednesday of injuries suffered a day earlier when he tried to pass a turning hay truck and collided with it on state Highway 205 in Harney County, Oregon State Police said Friday.

A semi-truck with two trailers loaded with hay, driven by a 67-year-old Hines man, was heading north on the highway near milepost 2 and was turning left onto Hotchkiss Lane shortly before 3:30 p.m. when the motorcyclist, David McNeill, tried to pass, Capt. Tim Fox said.

The motorcycle slid under the first semi-trailer before coming to a stop. Fox said the truck and trailers were able to stop without running over McNeil.

McNeil was taken first to Harney District Hospital in Burns and then flown by air ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, where he died of his injuries Wednesday night, Fox said.

The truck driver was not injured and his semi was driven from the scene. OSP was assisted by EMS, Burns Fire and Police, Hines Police, ODOT and the Harney County Sheriff’s Office.
