CEC: Tarp into line knocks out power to 1,200 N. of Bend

A tarp that blew into a transmission line opened a circuit-breaker and knocked out power to nearly 1,200 Central Electric Cooperative members north of Bend for close to an hour Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The tarp was blown into a transmission line at Quarry Avenue and Canal Boulevard in Redmond, opening a transmission breaker at the Deschutes Market Substation, CEC Member and Public Relations Director Jeff Beaman said.

The outage began around 4:20 p.m. and affected about 1,000 members east of Highway 97 along Deschutes Market Road to Tumalo Road on the north and Northeast Butler Market Road and Eagle Road on the south, as well as a section between highways 97 and 20 along Innes Market and Marsh roads and Southwest Young Avenue.

The service was restored before 5:30 p.m., Beaman said, except for about 40 in the immediate vicinity of the tarp, who will be restored once the tarp is removed.
