(Update: Motorcyclist seriously injured, driver held on DUII, hit-and-run charges)
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A 50-year-old Bend man was arrested on DUII and felony hit-and-run charges Sunday afternoon after allegedly fleeing the scene of a collision with a motorcycle that seriously injured the rider.
Police responded around 3:30 p.m. to the reported injury crash at Cooley Road and Hunters Circle, east of Highway 97, police Communications Manager Sheila Miller said.
A preliminary investigation found that the motorcyclist, a 47-year-old Bend man, was heading west on Cooley Road “at a high rate of speed,” Miller said in a news release.
Another Bend man was driving a silver Mazda sedan heading east on Cooley Road and turning left (north) onto Hunters Circle when the motorcyclist hit the back bumper, she said.
The motorcyclist was taken to St. Charles Bend with serious injuries.
The driver left the crash scene and later was located at Hunters Circle and Joseph Way, several blocks north. He was arrested and lodged in the Deschutes County Jail on suspicion of DUII and felony hit-and-run, Miller said. She said did not have initial information regarding whether the DUII charge involved alcohol or drugs.
The crash and investigation closed Cooley Road between U.S. Highway 97 and High Standard Drive for more than three hours for the Bend police crash reconstruction team to conduct their investigation. It reopened around 7 p.m.
