3-month-old puppy shot, killed west of Redmond
A 3-month-old puppy was shot and killed in a rural neighborhood west of Redmond last week, and the owner said Sunday they believe someone did it on purpose.
Last Monday, the Hancock family let their five dogs play in their yard, which is partially fenced off. Only four came back.
Their 3-month-old puppy, Saraya, was missing.
Neighbors put together a search party that very night, but the dog was nowhere to be found.
Teresa Hancock stayed home from work the next day to keep looking. Then, she came across a horrifying sight.
She said Saraya had been shot and killed, just 300 feet from her home on Northwest Oak Avenue.
“We’re just scared, because it’s so close to our house,” Hancock said Sunday. “Everyone in our neighborhood uses this property to walk their dogs, ride their horses, work out. Who’s out there in the middle of the day shooting? And who in the heck would shoot a puppy.”
The Hancocks live on a property where target shooting is allowed. But they said they found Saraya dead on BLM property, where shooting is not allowed.
A Deschutes County sheriff’s sergeant told NewsChannel 21 on Sunday they are unsure where the shots came from, and with little information to work from, the investigation has been closed.
