DCSO searchers find missing teen west of Redmond

An 18-year-old who became separated from his father Saturday while running their dogs in an area west of Redmond prompted a search that found him and his German shepherd about two hours later, cold but otherwise alright, officials said.

Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies responded around 3 p.m. to the area of Northwest Kingwood Drive and Maple Lane on the report of the lost teen, Michael McManus of Redmond, Lt. Ty Rupert said.

They learned McManus had been with his father, Daniel McManus, running their dogs in the area when Michael and his German shepherd had become separated from his father, Rupert said. The teen was not dressed or prepared for the cold temperatures, the lieutenant added.

Deputies and sheriff’s office detectives began searching the area and a Bend police K-9 team also responded to assist in the search. Soon, about 20 Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue volunteers also were dispatched to also help search for McManus.

After about two hours of searching, deputies found McManus on a trail about a half-mile north of his last known location. He was provided a coat and hat to keep him warm until he was reunited with his family, Rupert said.
