Fire destroys barn, contents NW of Tumalo

KTVZ

A fire Monday morning destroyed a barn and its contents northwest of Tumalo, causing an estimated $140,000 in losses but no injuries, officials said.

Bend firefighters responded shortly after 6 a.m. to the fire, which destroyed a 30-by-40-foot barn and shop in the 65000 block of Tweed Road, Battalion Chief Dave Howe said.

Crews arrived to find the barn fully ablaze with a tractor, forklift and backhoe inside.

There were no animals in the barn, Howe said, but the building and its contents were a total loss. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Losses totaled $40,000 to the structure and $100,000 worth of contents, which were insured, the battalion chief said.

Bend Fire crews were assisted by the Cloverdale Rural Fire District, which provided a command officer and a water tender. A total of 15 personnel responded.

Howe said the Bend and Cloverdale fire departments recently updated their mutual aid agreement, which makes such collaboration more effective.
