Portland PD: Man police shot pointed fake gun at officers

KTVZ

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say preliminary investigation shows a 34-year-old man who was shot and wounded by Portland police at a Starbucks was carrying a fake black handgun that he appears to have pointed at officers.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports Portland police shot Ryan Beisley at the Starbucks at Hollywood Fred Meyer Friday night.

Federal prison records say Beisley had escaped Dec. 1 from a Seattle residential re-entry center and was wanted on a fugitive warrant.

In January 2015, Beisley was sentenced to nearly six years in federal prison after pleading guilty to three bank robberies and two attempted bank robberies in 2013.

On Friday night, police say Beisley went behind the Starbucks counter and yelled at employees, who hid. Police say when they arrived, he pointed a gun at them, prompting them to shoot.

Beisley was treated at a hospital and is currently in jail.
