KTVZ

The Family Access Network (FAN) is the recipient of $10,000 in grant funds from the Oregon Community Foundation, which will be used to support newly implemented advocate services in Crook County for low-income students and building new local community partnerships to better serve children and families.

The FAN advocates in Crook County will continue to connect disadvantaged children and families to basic-need services such as: nutritious food, warm winter clothing, a safe place to sleep, heating assistance, comprehensive health care and more.

In the 2017/18 school year, FAN served 456 Crook County children and family members and is projected to serve a similar number of individuals in 2018/19. FAN received $10,000 from three different funds through the Oregon Community Foundation: the Robert W. Chandler Fund ($2,500), the Roy and Diane Marvin Fund ($2,500), and the Schamp Family Fund ($5,000).

“The Oregon Community Foundation is a valuable partner in our work to end the cycle of poverty for Central Oregonians. These grant funds will help us close the opportunity gap for Crook County children by increasing support from the Crook County community and by connecting children to essential basic-need services, giving them the opportunity to thrive,” said Julie Lyche, FAN’s Executive director.

The mission of The Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) is to improve lives for all Oregonians through the power of philanthropy. OCF works with individuals, families, businesses and organizations to create charitable funds to support the community causes they care about. In 2017, OCF awarded more than $118 million in grants and scholarships.

Unique to Central Oregon, FAN began in January 1993 and currently employs 24 advocates in 55 public schools (K-12) and early childhood sites to efficiently reach and connect disadvantaged children and families to critical basic-need services such as: food, shelter, clothing, healthcare and more. FAN’s mission is to offer assistance, possibility and hope to Central Oregon families in need by connecting them with crucial resources that will help children flourish in school and in life.
