Bend-area garbage haulers simplify recycling guides

KTVZ

Bend Garbage & Recycling and Cascade Disposal have joined together to improve their customer recycling guides. The new guides are designed to show the simplicity of recycling and focus on what items are acceptable in your local recycling program.

Brad Bailey, President of Bend Garbage & Recycling, says, “With the global recycling market crisis that began in January of 2018, we continue to get a lot of questions from our customers about what can be recycled here.”

Bailey explains, “We thought this was a good time to refresh our look and send out the user friendly guides to our customers to remind them what can be recycled here in Deschutes County.” Customers are asked to Recycle Right and only put in what is approved on the recycling guide. If in doubt, leave it out. It is important to avoid ‘wishful recycling’ and don’t include materials that are not listed as a yes on the recycling guides.

Erwin Swetnam, Cascade Disposal Site Manager says, “Our goal is to make the recycling guides as simple as possible for our customers and focus on the materials that are accepted in the blue recycling carts, instead of the materials that aren’t. To maintain a sustainable program, it is important to keep the contaminants out, like plastic grocery bags or other items that are not listed on the recycling guides.”

Recycling guides are available from your local service provider. Visit their websites at bendgarbage.com or cascadedisposal.com or contact their office to have one mailed.
