Redmond woman recovering after Canal Blvd. crash
(Update: Driver listed in fair condition)
A 21-year-old Redmond woman was hospitalized Tuesday evening when her SUV left Southwest Canal Boulevard south of Redmond, struck a fence and crashed head-on into a tree, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.
Deputies were dispatched around 7:10 p.m. to the reported injury crash on Canal Boulevard near Southwest 61 st Street, Sgt. Grant Johnstone said.
Deputies determined that a black 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Salena Wilson was heading south on Canal Boulevard when it left the road near the 7000 block and traveled off the right shoulder before striking the fence and tree, Johnstone said.
A citizen driving in the area moments later saw Wilson had managed to get out of the Jeep and crawled up the road shoulder and onto the roadway, Johnstone said. The citizen stayed with Wilson to protect her from other traffic until emergency personnel arrived.
Johnstone said Bend Fire medics took Wilson to St. Charles Bend with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A house supervisor said she was in fair condition early Wednesday.
He said no citations have been issued and the investigation is continuing to determine the cause of the crash. The road conditions were dry at the time, Johnstone added.
