Sisters woman injured, cited in Hwy. 126 crash east of Sisters

(Update: OSP identifies driver, who was cited; hospitalized in good condition)

A Sisters woman was taken to the hospital and was cited Friday after a two-vehicle “T-bone” crash at the intersection of Highway 126 and Fryrear Road east of Sisters, officials said.

Cloverdale and Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire units were dispatched around 1:45 p.m. to the high-impact collision about six miles east of Sisters, Cloverdale Fire Captain Michael Valoppi said.

A preliminary investigation found that a small silver sedan with three occupants was moving at highway speed when a gold station wagon pulled out onto the highway in front of them, Valoppi said.

The female driver of the station wagon, alone in the vehicle, was cut out of the wreckage and taken to St. Charles Bend. The three young people in the sedan were evaluated and released at the scene.

The southbound Mercedes station wagon’s driver, Jennifer Andrews, 73, of Sisters, was cited for failure to yield before entering a highway, Oregon State Police reported.

A 17-year-old Redmond resident was driving the westbound Honda Civic, accompanied by two other Redmond boys, both 15.

Also responding to the scene were Black Butte Ranch Fire, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police and ODOT. The crash closed Highway 126 in both directions for about an hour.

Valoppi said he “would like to remind everyone to look right, left, right before turning onto the highway. Drive safely this holiday weekend.”
