Bend Scouts, trash haulers recycle Christmas trees

Bend-area Boy Scout troops will be collecting and recycling Christmas trees in your community the weekends of Dec. 29 & 30 and January 5 & 6, Bend Garbage & Recycling says. Requested donation is $5-$10. 100% of money raised will go directly to the individual scout troops.

Individual troops in your area will post door flyers specifying which days they will be picking up trees in your neighborhood. Trees will be recycled so please have trees cleaned of all lights, decorations and tinsel.

Bend Garbage & Recycling will collect your tree on your garbage day the week of January 7 – 11, 2019 for a $5 charge. Set your tree out next to your roll cart.

For city customers with curbside yard debris service, you can recycle your Christmas tree by cutting the tree down to smaller pieces and placing in your yard debris cart.

At no charge, Deschutes Recycling, located at Knott Landfill (61050 SE 27 th Street, Bend), will take Christmas trees for recycling December 26, 2018 – January 31, 2019. Flocked trees are not accepted. Trees must be cleaned of all lights, decorations, tinsel, and wires. You can also bring your Christmas tree lights to Deschutes Recycling at no charge. Lights must be removed from trees.

Deschutes Recycling is open Monday – Saturday, 7:00 am – 4:30 pm, closed Sunday and holidays.

Meanwhile, Cascade Disposal will be offering customers free curbside Christmas Tree recycling during the week of Jan. 14-18 and will donate $5 to the local Boy Scouts troop for each tree collected. Please call their customer service department at 541-382-6660 if you would like to take advantage of this service.
