Redmond HS principal selection process begins

KTVZ

The Redmond School District has begun the official process of hiring a new principal for Redmond High School after several months of three staff members sharing those duties, Director of Human Resources Lynn Evans announced Monday.

Assistant principals Sarah Peterson and Jason Chatterton, along with Director of Secondary Education Tracie Renwick, have been at the helm of RHS since May, when the principal position became vacant.

“Inviting a new leader to our team is always exciting, but the journey of strategically locating the right candidate requires a great deal of time and effort,” Evans said in a news release.

The hiring process begins with several rounds of input sessions where district leadership team members seek suggestions and recommendations from school stakeholder groups who will work directly with the new principal. The sessions provide the opportunity to provide thoughts about the skills, experiences and characteristics they would like to see in a new leader.

The district began accepting candidate materials Monday, although recruiting efforts began long before.

Candidate materials will be screened by members of the recruiting and hiring team which includes members of the RHS team. Screening can be a lengthy process as the team thoroughly reviews all material submissions. High School principal openings in the district can garner 25 to 35 applications.

“This is a vital position requiring an experienced leader,” Evans said. “Leading a comprehensive high school is about as intense as it gets in education leadership.”

After the candidate pool is narrowed, the district will invite selected candidates to complete a video interview, then a thorough, day-long interview process will ensure top candidates demonstrate their skills and readiness to lead to the recruit and hire team, Evans explained.

Finally, the top two candidates will be presented to Superintendent Mike McIntosh, who will conduct his own interviews and make the final decision. The district plans to announce the school’s new principal in April, to assume the role on July 1.
