Big winter storm blows into western Washington

SEATTLE (AP) – Western Washington was hit Monday by a major winter storm, with several inches of snow, cold temperatures and bone-chilling winds.

Numerous school districts have closed for the day, including Seattle, Everett, Bellevue and Tacoma.

The heaviest snows are in Snohomish and eastern King County. North Bend has reported 10 inches of snow, while 8 inches fell in Marysville.

Temperatures were in the low 20s across much of the region with wind chills in the teens.

The Kitsap Fast Ferry canceled service Monday morning due to strong winds and rough seas.

Sea-Tac Airport saw 3 inches of snow by 5:30 a.m. Planes were being deiced before takeoff, and the airport reported three-hour delays on some arriving flights

Snow is expected to continue to fall into the mid-morning hours then taper off.
