Police: Wanted Bend driver flees, crashes, fights with officers
(Update: Redmond police details on crimes Adams was wanted for)
A Bend woman wanted by Redmond police fled a traffic stop in northeast Bend Wednesday morning and later crashed into a home’s front yard, then fought with police trying to arrest her, injuring two officers and biting one of them, police said.
Shortly before 11 a.m., police tried to pull over a 2003 Saturn driven by Kristen Marie Adams, 39, to arrest her for a previous crime in Redmond, but she sped away when police turned on their overhead lights, Lt. Jason Maniscalco said.
Officers did not pursue the fleeing driver due to safety concerns, he added.
Redmond police Lt. Curtis Chambers said the department took a report around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday of a criminal trespass and criminal mischief in the 600 block of Northwest Green Forest Circle and that Adams was identified as a suspect. Redmond police contacted Bend police for help in finding her.
Four minutes later, a resident on Northeast Eastview Drive, near 18th Street, reported a car with only the female driver inside had crashed in his front yard and was stuck in the yard, Maniscalco said.
The citizen provided dispatchers with the license plate for the car driven by Adams and police went to the scene.
Adams was combative and fought with officers as they tried to arrest her on several charges, Maniscalco said. Two officers were injured.
Both officers had scrapes while one “had a bite injury from the suspect,” Maniscalco said. He also confirmed the restraint device called the WRAP was used to take the woman into custody.
Adams received minor injuries in the crash and was taken to St. Charles Bend for evaluation. The lieutenant said Adams faces charges including attempting to elude police, reckless driving, assault on a public safety officer and resisting arrest.
