Corvallis parents sue for $65M after son, 5, drowns at camp

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – The parents of a 5-year-old boy who drowned at a Corvallis summer camp are suing the athletic club that hosted the camp for more than $56 million.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reported Thursday that the lawsuit alleges the Timberhill Athletic Club didn’t have a lifeguard on duty when Tomas Barreto Pizano rode a water slide into the pool on June 18, 2018.

The lawsuit says surveillance video shows the boy sinking and then bobbing up to gasp for air between 88 and 92 times over a four-minute period before he becomes unresponsive.

The complaint says it took eight more minutes for other adult pool guests to notice Tomas floating in the water.

Eric Kekel, an attorney for the athletic club, declined comment about allegations in the lawsuit.
