Soroptimist of Bend gives 2 ‘Live Your Dream Awards’

Two recipients of the Soroptimist International of Bend “Live Your Dream Award” were honored on Jan. 26. Mayor Sally Russell gave the inspirational address.

Jennifer Thompson, a COCC student, is pursuing a degree in Business Administration. Amber Schied, also a COCC graduate (Applied Science/Criminal Justice) and as a student of Grand Canyon University, will begin a career in elementary education after completing her student teaching this spring. Schied is the recipient of the LYD award underwritten by Central Cooperative Electric. Each woman received $2000.

The “Live Your Dream Award” may be used for any purpose that will enable the woman to stay in school and complete her education, in addition to tuition, it maybe used for childcare, books, transportation, utilities, etc. Applicants must be head of household, financially needy women who are enrolled in a certificated program. Soroptimist’s Annual Holiday Evergreen Sale supports the funding of the awards with the assistance of CEC. For more information: www.sibend.org
