KTVZ

About 50 chickens died in a fire that destroyed a barn northwest of Redmond on Saturday, officials said.

Redmond Fire & Rescue crews were called shortly after noon to a property in the 5800 block of Northwest 62 nd Street, Fire Marshal Traci Cooper said.

They arrived to find a 1,500-square-foot barn fully engulfed by a fire that was not threatening other structures, Cooper said.

The barn contained about 50 chickens, but no other livestock or pets, she added.

The first firefighters on scene contained the fire to the barn and put out any remaining hot spots.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. No people were injured by the fire, which caused an estimated $10,000 loss to the structure and contents.

Mutual-aid assistance was provided by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and Crooked River Ranch Fire and Rescue.
