KPOV seeks aspiring young DJs, broadcasters

KTVZ

Do you know an aspiring DJ between the ages of 10-14? Are you or your children looking for a fun and creative way to spend spring break. If so, KPOV’s Spring Break Youth Radio Camp is just for them.

This camp teaches our community’s youth how to DJ, interview friends, talk live on the air as well as tell stories with sound effects, music, and humor. What’s more, KPOV will help this group produce a one-hour radio show that will be broadcast on KPOV, 88.9 FM. Students will even be able to take home a copy to share with friends and family.

The Camp takes place March 25 – 29, from 9 a.m. to noon at the KPOV studios in downtown Bend, and is for youth ages 10-14.

Bend Parks and Recreation partners with KPOV to produce Youth Radio Camp. Registration is available on the Bend Parks and Recreation website, bendparksandrec.org. Do a word search for KPOV. For questions, go to kpov.org or call 541-322-0863.

Other Opportunities for Youth at KPOV

KPOV also offers other opportunities for youth to get involved in local radio, including a DJ training class that starts Saturday, April 6. KPOV turns the microphone over to teens on Youth Radio Hour, a weekly one-hour radio show hosted by teenagers aged 15-18. The DJ training class is required for Youth Radio Hour.

KPOV’s teen (and adult) DJ class is a partnership with Central Oregon Community College Community Learning. Registration is available at their website or at 541-383-7270. There is more information at kpov.org.

KPOV is a listener-supported, volunteer-powered, nonprofit community radio station that broadcasts at 88.9 FM and live on the web at kpov.org. KPOV is radio by the people and for the people of Central Oregon; strengthening community, arts, culture, and democracy through grassroots participation in independent, non-commercial radio. KPOV offers locally produced programs not heard on any other radio stations in the region, including civic affairs, election coverage, and the most diverse music programming in Central Oregon.

Underwriting with KPOV High Desert Community Radio is available and affordable for nonprofit organizations and local businesses. For a program schedule, underwriting information, to donate or to volunteer, call 541-322-0863 or visit the website at kpov.org.
