Madras fatal shooting victim identified
(Update: Shooting victim identified)
The FBI is helping Madras police look for a person of interest on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation in the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old Madras man late last week.
Police were dispatched shortly after 8:30 p.m. Friday to St. Charles Madras on a report of a gunshot victim who had arrived at the hospital by car, Detective Sgt. Steve Webb said Monday.
Officers arrived to learn that Cody Wallulatum, 29, of Madras, had died. The Central Oregon Major Crime Team was activated to conduct a homicide investigation, Webb said.
Police investigators determined the shooting had occurred at a home on Southeast Eighth Street, the sergeant said. Several search warrants have been served as part of the investigation.
Webb said police have identified a “person of interest” and determined the individual may have fled to the reservation. The FBI was asked to assist in finding the individual and others “with knowledge of the incident” that also are believed to be on the reservation, he added.
No further information is being released in the ongoing investigation, he added.
