Wyden, Merkley, Walden react to Mueller report summary

KTVZ

Oregon’s congressional delegation wasted no time Sunday in reacting to the results of the Mueller investigation summarized by Attorney General William Barr, and the reactions were, not surprisingly, split along party lines.

The state’s two Democratic senators, Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, said the rest of the Mueller report should be made public, while Republican Rep. Greg Walden said it’s time for the Democrats to accept the findings that President Trump committed no crime.

” Barr made it clear before he was nominated that he didn’t think Trump committed obstruction of justice, ” Wyden said in a tweet. ” That’s why Trump made him AG. ”

” If Mueller did present arguments and evidence for why the President of the United States obstructed justice, they need to be made public. Now, ” Wyden added.

Merkley had tweeted earlier Sunday, ” Even before the #MuellerReport, we know Russia illegally interfered in our election; Trump encouraged Russian hacking; there were more than 100 contacts (between) the Trump campaign & Russia that people LIED to cover up. We MUST demand accountability & action. ”

Later, after the Barr summary was released to Congress, Merkley said, ” AG Barr’s summary is grossly insufficient. Congress and the public need to see the FULL #MuellerReport IMMEDIATELY. ”

Merkley added, ” Barr was handpicked because he said the president couldn’t be charged with obstruction and, guess what? He decided no obstruction! Shocker! ”

Walden issued a series of tweets, saying, ” I supported Robert Mueller’s appointment as special counsel & consistently supported ensuring his two-year investigation was free from any political influence. ”

” Special Counsel Mueller deserves the gratitude of all Americans for his public service & for conducting this important investigation with integrity & professionalism. His exhaustive work makes clear that President Trump & his campaign did not collude with the Russians. Period. ”

“The special counsel & his team came to this conclusion after a rigorous investigation that followed all leads to get to the facts, ” the congressman added. “Now, those who promoted this conspiratorial theory should accept the facts of Mr. Mueller’s findings. ”
