Madras man arrested in stabbing with scissors

A 21-year-old Madras man was arrested on assault and other charges Tuesday, accused of stabbing a 50-year-old acquaintance in the neck with scissors at a home in southeast Madras, police said.

Madras police and Jefferson County EMS responded around 12:30 p.m. to a home in the 500 block of Southeast 10th Street on a report of someone bleeding from the neck, Detective Sgt. Steve Webb said.

Officers contacted the 50-year-old Madras resident with at least one puncture wound to the neck.

Webb said he was able to tell officers he’d been visiting acquaintances at the home when he was assaulted by a man identified as Benjamin Bunnell.

Medics took the victim to St. Charles Madras, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released, Webb said.

During an investigation, Bunnell was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County Jail on charges of first- and second-egree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He was held on $16,500 bail pending arraignment Wednesday.

Webb said the scissors used as a weapon were recovered at the home and an investigation into the assault is continuing.

Court records show Bunnell was arrested in just over a year ago in Deschutes County on Class A misdemeanor charges of harassment involving “offensive physical contact” with a female family member, witnessed by a child, and intefering with a Redmond police officer by refusing to stop.

Bunnell pleaded guilty last month to the interference charge and was sentenced to two days in jail.
