Uber’s 2023 lost and found report includes dentures, weed, a lightsaber and a slushy machine

By Emmy Abbassi, CNN

Uber has released its annual list of items forgotten by passengers in cars and it includes some truly bizarre items — including an ankle monitor, fingernails and even a slushy machine.

The ride-share company published its 2023 Uber Lost & Found Index on April 27 as Mercury makes its way back into retrograde, a time of the year astrologists say influences forgetfulness, according to Uber. The index is based on missing item reports filed by passengers.

The 10 most forgotten items come as no surprise and include phones, wallets, keys, jewelry and headphones.

But their list of the 50 most unique items lost is where things get weird. It includes a Danny DeVito Christmas ornament, fire sword, remote-controlled vibrator, chicken wings, six cheesecakes, painted rat traps, an important pregnancy test, dentures, a lightsaber, weed and one Gucci loafer.

Jacksonville, Florida, took the top spot for being the most forgetful city. San Antonio, Texas, and Palm Springs, California, took the second and third spots, respectively. The most common time of the day to report lost items is 11 p.m., Uber said.

The annual report, which is in its seventh year, aims to remind passengers how to get lost items back using the Uber app.

“As you get going this summer, try to remember your belongings when you exit the backseat. In case you do lose a precious Danny Devito Christmas ornament, a beloved pet Toy Poodle or 6 cheesecakes, Uber is always happy to help return those items,” an Uber spokeswoman said in a news release.

Using a feature within the app, riders can report items as lost and contact drivers to have them returned. The service costs $15 and covers the driver’s time and effort.

Of course, it’s up to passengers to decide if fingernails or chicken wings are worth the price.
