Ex-OSU student gets prison in hotel worker kidnapping

NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) – A former Oregon State University student has been sentenced to nearly nine years in prison for kidnapping a Newport hotel worker at gunpoint and then taking the woman on a ride.

KATU-TV reports Cedar Haddad of Corvallis was sentenced this week after earlier this month pleading guilty to first-degree kidnapping, second-degree kidnapping, menacing and two counts of coercion.

Police say Haddad pulled a gun on the woman May 18, 2018 before he handcuffed her and forced her into his car for what turned into a 90-minute ride. Police say Haddad made several stops before the victim was released unharmed in a neighborhood about a mile from the motel.

During court proceedings, Haddad was evaluated at the Oregon State Hospital where physicians found he had the ability to know what he was doing was wrong, but was also diagnosed with delusional disorder.
