Another cougar sighting in Deschutes River canyon
The latest in a string of cougar sightings around the region occurred Thursday evening when a resident on the west side of the Deschutes River canyon in southern Bend made a report, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife confirmed Saturday.
“We are continuing to monitor the situation/sightings and have no actions planned at this time, ” ODFW spokeswoman Michelle Dennehy said.
The canyon upstream (south) of the Billy Healy Memorial Bridge remains posted with warning signs about the recent sightings, which included a deer kill on May 15 in a subdivision on the east side of the river canyon.
There also was a cougar sighting reported in Sunriver last Tuesday, and the active search to trap and euthanize a cougar in the Deschutes Canyon was called off when the animal did not return,
