Fire burns law office in downtown Madras

Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire in a downtown Madras law office Saturday evening.

Jefferson County Fire District No. 1 crews were dispatched shortly before 6:30 p.m. to the fire at the intersection of Southeast Fifth and D Street, said Capt, Kasey Skaar. Frontier Dispatch gave the location as 205 SE 5th Street, the law offices of Glenn, Reeder, Gassner LLP.

Crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the first floor of the two-story business on the east side of the building, Skaar said. Firefighters working in heavy rain staged a coordinated attack to knock down the blaze, then went inside to check for any extension.

There were no injuries, Skaar said.

A dozen fire district personnel and three volunteers were on scene, assisted by Jefferson County EMS, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Madras Police Department, Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
