Revamped Bend south Mirror Pond lot reopens Wednesday
Downtown Bend’s south Mirror Pond parking lot reopens Wednesday after 2 1/2 months of construction to improve deteriorating conditions and increase safety in the area, city officials said.
With the south Mirror Pond parking lot redesign, the condition of the parking lot was improved with new curbs and asphalt. Safety improvements addressed concerns over the trash enclosures, center landscape strip, lighting and west property boundary.
The parking lot is expected to be more functional with improved internal circulation and new parking stall configuration, including spaces for long vehicles, officials said.
In 2016, the City of Bend Police Department along with the Economic Development Department began a “Problem Oriented Policing” project downtown which identified needs in the south Mirror Pond parking lot.
A 2017 Council-approved Downtown Strategic Management Parking Plan identified the south Mirror Pond parking lot as having high parking demand and recommended changes to the lot to improve its functionality, availability and safety.
