Heat wave expected this week for western Washington, Oregon

SEATTLE (AP) – Forecasters say people in western Washington and Oregon should prepare for warmer than normal temperatures this week with highs into the 90s in some areas.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from noon Tuesday through 9 p.m. Wednesday for the Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington, metro area, the Columbia River Gorge, Oregon cities of Salem, Corvallis and Eugene, and Washington cities of Longview, Castle Rock and others.

Near-record highs in the upper 80s and 90s are expected Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Weather Service says daytime highs are also expected to be above normal for this time of year in much of the Puget Sound area.

State fire officials are urging people to help prevent wildfires that can start easily in hot, windy weather.

By Thursday, an onshore flow is forecast to slowly bring cooler temperatures to the region.
