2 Portland officers involved in fatal shooting ID’d
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities have released the names of two officers involved in the fatal police shooting of a man holding a woman at knifepoint Sunday in Portland’s Pearl District.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports Officer Nathan Kirby-Glatkowski, a 2-year veteran, used lethal force, and Officer Jackson Oldham, a 4-year veteran, used less-lethal force, according to Portland police.
Both have been placed on paid leave until an investigation is complete.
Portland police spokeswoman Lt. Tina Jones says the shooting happened after officers responded to reports of a man with a knife who was claiming to have an explosive device shortly before 10 a.m.
The officers confronted a man in a stairwell before shooting him. Jones says the man died at the scene.
Police say the woman was hurt before the two police officers arrived.
She was taken to a hospital and released Sunday evening.
