Western Washington, Oregon see more record-breaking heat

SEATTLE (AP) – Areas of western Washington and Oregon, including Seattle and Portland have broken heat records for the second day in a row.

The National Weather Service says the temperature hit 95 degrees at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Wednesday, beating the previous June 12 record of 85 degrees. On Tuesday, Sea-Tac reached 87, three degrees higher than the 1989 record for the date.

Olympia set a record with 93 degrees Wednesday, blowing past a previous record of 86.

The weather service says the temperature in Portland hit 97 degrees Wednesday, breaking a previous record for the day of 93.

In Eugene, the temperature rose to 99 degrees, breaking its record by 10 degrees. Salem broke its record by 1 degree, at 94 degrees.

The National Weather Service says cooler weather is expected for the rest of the week.
