Legal fireworks spark wildfire near Madras subdivision

KTVZ

Legal fireworks sparked a fire that burned about an acre late Sunday afternoon near the Yarrow subdivision on the east side of Madras, officials said.

Jefferson County Fire District No. 1 crews were called to the reported fire around 4:40 p.m. near the intersection of Southeast Yarrow Avenue and Honeysuckle Loop, said Lt. Kirk Hagman .

The first crews arrived to find a half-acre fire spreading on open land, but fortunately away from the subdivision, Hagman said.

Six volunteers and a fire district staff member used two wildland fire rigs and a water tender to extinguish, then mop up the fire with no damage to any property, the lieutenant said.

” Always be careful when using fireworks, and please don’t use them during times of high winds, ” Hagman said in a news release.
