Burning, abandoned car sparks fire near Pronghorn

KTVZ

A stuck, burning and apparently abandoned car sparked a small brush fire on BLM land near Pronghorn Resort Sunday afternoon, Redmond Fire officials said.

Crews were called out to Southeast Sherman Road around 3:40 p.m., Battalion Chief Ron Hawkins said.

They arrived to find an unoccupied two-door car burning, whose driver apparently tried to leave the North Unit Irrigation District canal right of way to cross brush and grass and reach Sherman Road, Hawkins said.

The car became stuck and a fire started, extending to a strip of brush and grass about 200 yards long and 20 yards wide, he said.

Firefighters tackled the blaze, stopping its progress, and began mop-up before BLM resources arrived and finished the effort.

The fire burned about an acre. No one was with the car when crews arrived and there were no injuries.
