An Arizona woman who fell on a hike near Broken Top was rescued Sunday afternoon by Deschutes County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue volunteers, officials said.

County 911 dispatch got a call shortly after 3 p.m. regarding the injured hiker near No Name Lake, identified as Mary Ortmann ,74, of Surprise, Arizona, who reportedly fell while descending the trail, said Deputy Josh Westfall, assistant search and rescue coordinator.

A sheriff’s deputy was able to make contact with a member of Ortmann’s party to monitor her status and help coordinate the SAR response, Westfall said.

A total of 18 SAR volunteers headed to the scene while the woman and her party began a careful descent to help get her to medics quicker.

SAR volunteers made Ortmann on the Broken Top Trail about 5:15 p.m. and treated her on scene, Westfall said. She was then brought by wheeled litter down to the trailhead, where she was transfered to a SAR vehicle and brought to the Todd Lake Trailhead, where a Bend Fire Department ambulance was waiting.

Ortmann was taken to St. Charles Bend, where a house supervisor said she was treated and released.
