ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — David Clyde’s story is still a cautionary tale 50 years after his MLB debut with the Texas Rangers at 18 years old. The No. 1 overall pick was only a few weeks out of high school in 1973 when the big left-hander got thrust into the majors. The original Rangers owner was desperate to generate interest and ticket sales for the financially strapped team that had moved from Washington the previous season. The Texas prep phenom won his debut 50 years ago Tuesday, but finished 18-33 in 84 big league games. The Rangers recognized Clyde before their game against Detroit.
