SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — U.S.-born teenager Casey Phair has been selected in South Korea’s 23-player squad for the Women’s World Cup. The 16-year-old forward has a Korean mother and an American father. She is the first player of mixed heritage to represent South Korea in the top women’s or men’s national soccer teams. She’s also the youngest. Phair performed well for South Korea in April in qualification for the Under-17 Asian Cup and was called up to the senior team’s training camp last month. Phair says “I feel really proud and honored to be given this opportunity.” South Korea opens the World Cup against Colombia in Sydney on July 25 and will also face Germany and Morocco in Group H.
