Bend business Square Baby releases newest dish to ring in the new year: Fancy Pants Wagyu Truffle

(Update: Adding video and comments from Square Baby CEO)

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Bend-based Square Baby™ calls itself "the most innovative disruptor in premium baby food" and recently announced its latest creation – Fancy Pants Wagyu Truffle.

When Katie Thomson became a parent 15 years ago, she started researching baby food. in 2018, she opened Square Baby and its not a national brand. The food is meant to provide babies their daily recommended veggies, fruits, grains, and proteins in a couple of servings.

The company's latest announcement said, "Crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail, Fancy Pants Wagyu Truffle embodies Square Baby's commitment to providing your little one with the very best in taste and science-based nutrition," the company said.

"This latest meal features a luxurious blend of premium, iron-rich, A5 Wagyu beef, renowned for its rich marbling and tender texture, combined with the exquisite aroma of truffles, and the flavors of purple carrots, grass fed butter, parsnips, and Yukon gold potatoes," Square Baby elaborated.

The company said, "This very limited-edition release will be available exclusively at SquareBaby.com." It went on sale Dec. 27 for $50 per 4-ounce meal "and will be shipped in a cooler box with dry ice right to your doorstep."

"Elevating the world of baby food to unprecedented heights, this indulgent and nutritious offering will have you saying Wagyu-la-la," the company said.

Square Baby offers customized meal plans that provide 100% of baby's daily recommended servings of veggies, fruit, whole grains, and protein for each stage of development. Their Square Meal System™ has been developed to meet dietary needs, foster palate development, and introduce allergens early and often for food allergy prevention.

Square Baby says its organic meals contain less than half of the sugar and twice the amount of protein and healthy fats as most pouches. And no added sugar, preservatives, additives – ever.

Thomson said, "We found that many of the pouches have more sugar per ounce than a can of Coca-Cola. We solve for that by having very balanced and veggie-forward meals, so having a third of the sugar than those pouches.

"We also found allergen reduction to be a huge opportunity," she told us. "The new research shows hat introducing allergens like peanuts, eggs, and milk to your babu as early as 4 to 6 months can actually help to prevent food allergies by up to 80%."

"So what that means is any two to three of our meals is 100% of babies daily recommended veggies, fruits, grains’ and protein, really taking the guesswork out of it for parents. Following the recommendations of the Academy of Pediatrics behind allergen introduction and veggie forward meals. SO really just taking every pain point I had when trying to figure out what my baby needs in a day and how I make sure he grows up to be an adventurous eater and solving that for parents," Thomson said.

Square Baby is sold online, and with out-sourcing, they deliver 70,000 meals a day like avocado greens and mango coconut chicken.
