OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The death of a 16-year-old nonbinary student in Oklahoma the day after a school fight has been ruled a suicide by the state’s medical examiner’s office. A summary autopsy released this week shows Nex Benedict had toxic levels of drugs in their system and died of an overdose on Feb. 8 after a fight with several girls inside a high school restroom. Owasso police say a complete autopsy report will be released in about 10 days. After that, police will forward the results of their investigation to the district attorney’s office for possible criminal charges.
