Wintry mixed precipitation and below average temperatures

A fine Monday to you Central Oregon.  This morning brings a chance for snow, turning to a chance for rain for a period of this afternoon and then back to a mix of rain and snow again this evening.  Temperatures should be on the chilly and below average side.

An upper level trough of low pressure is approaching the Washington coast and bringing a cold front across our area from the northwest this morning. The system will slowly progress southeast through today and the colder airmass will result in dropping snow levels. Expect persistent mountain snow and windy conditions to accompany this system and as a result there are several advisories in place:

A Winter Storm Warning in place until 4pm today along the East slopes of the Cascades above 3000 ft due to possible heavy snow accumulations of 4-12 inches and winds as high as 40mph.  Expect travel to be difficult to impossible due to widespread blowing snow reducing visibility.  This could impact your morning commute.

There is also a Winter Weather Advisory above 4000ft in the Southern Blue Mountains of Oregon and Ochoco-John Day Highlands and extending further into the Eastern portion our forecast area until 4am Tuesday. Additional snow accumulations of 2-6 inches are possible with winds gusts as high as 40mph impacting travel and possibly morning commutes.

A wind advisory in Southeast Oregon as well from 7am-4pm today due to west winds of 25-35 mph with gusts of 45-55mph possible. Gusty winds could make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Unsecured objects may be blow around. Tree limbs could be blown down

Winds will be out of the West today in the 10 to 20 mph range with gusts as high as 25mph.  Highs  will be in the 30s and overnight lows in the teens and 20s.
