Active weather period around the corner with mild temperatures today

Happy Wednesday! Some freezing/slippery road conditions are possible this morning but temperatures are above freezing in much of the area. There will be a wintry mix of rain and snow today as the temps will be a bit on the mild side.  This afternoon there’s a chance for rain to arrive ahead of a rather intense cold front that will make its way into the area overnight into tomorrow.

An incoming upper level low pressure system will continue to push winter weather into the PacNW over the next several days. High winds, heavy mountain snow and cooler temperatures are expected as the system begins to push onshore.

A Wind Advisory is in place until 7am Thursday due to gusty southwest winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 55mph expected.  Gusty winds can blow around unsecured objects and break tree limbs leading to power outage.

There’s a Winter Storm Warning along the east slopes of the Cascades including La Pine and Sunriver starting at 4pm this afternoon and lasting until 4am Friday. Heavy snow above 4000 ft is expected; accumulations of 12-24 inches are possible.  Wind may gust up to 60mph.  Sunriver and La Pine can expect 3-6 inches and the Santiam Pass could see up to 20 inches of snow.

Winds will be out of the South and Southwest today in the 15 to 25 mph range by this afternoon and staying active overnight, with gusts as high as 32 mph possible in some areas throughout the day. High temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s with overnight lows in the 30s, primarily.
