Cold nights and dry days the rest of the work week

The snow has ended in Central Oregon for now and it is not expected to return until the weekend. The mountains are likely to get some snow, but the lower elevations along 97 will probably see a mix of rain and snow. The snow will fall overnight and the rain will fall in the daytime hours.

There is a pleasant feel to the region today as we finally get a good dose of sunshine. Temperatures are not likely to get much above 40, if at all, but the solar energy will do a great job melting the snow.

The overnight weather pattern will be cold.  The clear skies and light winds will allow any heat that we gain during the day to radiate off in the night sky, so the mercury in the thermometer will dip into the low teens and some may hit single digits.  This cold air will likely allow some icy roads to develop as the melting snow will re-freeze in patches tonight. Be careful on hills and secondary roads.

Thursday will be a bit warmer, and the nights will not be as cold. The same is true for Friday. Some clouds arrive late Friday afternoon, ahead of another round of mountain snow and spotty rain Saturday.  The precipitation will probably end by early morning, so we may get mostly snow. Accumulations are going to be light, but it will be a reminder that winter is still in play.

Expect a wintry mix of mountain snow and high desert rain to be off and on from Saturday through at least Tuesday.
