BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- On Saturday, Armed Forces Day marked the beginning of the 19th year of the Bend Parade of Flags, overseen by the Bend Heroes Foundation.

Under the leadership of Scott Buchanan, Major, USAF Retired, Mountain View High School Navy JROTC Cadets had the honor of leading BPF for the 19th season, installing over 250 flags on Veterans Memorial Bridge (Newport Avenue) and downtown Bend.

Volunteers assisted assist the Cadets. Every flag has a veteran's name embroidered on it, including 6,551 WWII Veterans.

Deschutes County Commissioner Patti Adair read President Biden's Armed Forces Day Proclamation during a brief ceremony at the Bend Heroes Memorial in Brooks Park.

The flag installation finished about 40 minutes later with group photos at the Deschutes County Courthouse on Bond Street.

The event was free of charge and open to the public.
