WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Donald Trump’s campaign says the Biden administration’s upcoming executive order to limit border crossings is ineffective and that President Joe Biden could completely close the border “with a swipe of the same pen.” The White House is telling lawmakers that Biden is preparing to sign an executive order to shut down entries to the U.S.-Mexico border once the number of daily encounters hits 2,500 between ports of entry. The border could be closed to migrants seeking asylum effectively immediately because daily figures exceed the limit. Several people familiar with the discussions say the border will reopen once that number declines to 1,500. Biden is expected to unveil his actions at the White House on Tuesday.
