BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The May primary election has just passed and the fall election is five months away, but the filing period begins Wednesday for four Bend City Council seats on the Nov. 5 election ballot.

For 2024, the following 4-year terms are up for election:

  • Position #1: Currently held by Megan Norris
  • Position #2: Currently held by Anthony Broadman
  • Position #3: Currently held by Megan Perkins
  • Position #4: Currently held by Barb Campbell

Broadman's seat will be open, as he is the Democratic nominee for the state Senate District 27 seat on the fall ballot, facing Republican nominee Michael Summers.

Perkins told NewsChannel 21 on Tuesday she intends to run for a second term and will be making an announcement "in a week or two."

Campbell, elected to the council a decade ago, told us she has not decided whether to seek a fourth term. We have reached out to Norris as well.

Bend residents interested in being elected to serve on the City Council can file between this Wednesday and August 27. Detailed information and nomination forms are available on the city's website.

Candidates must reside within the city limits of Bend for at least one year prior to taking office and be a registered voter. Individuals elected to a seat on the City Council will begin serving in January.

Candidates can expect to meet in the council capacity at least four nights each month. Councilors automatically sit on the Bend Urban Renewal Agency Board, serve on the Budget Committee, and participate in other local and regional committees.

Candidates elected to a councilor position in the November election will receive the recently increased annual $30,000 stipend, health benefits and an annual $3,000 health and wellness stipend.

Information on nomination petitions is available in the office of the Bend City Recorder, 710 NW Wall Street, 2nd floor, or by calling the City Recorder’s Office at 541-617-4529.
