38 dogs rescued from crowded Oklahoma shelter touch down in Bend, thanks to Dog Is My Copilot, Street Dog Hero

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Nearly 40 tail-wagging dogs rescued from a crowded Oklahoma shelter touched down Saturday at Bend Airport to begin the next, happier chapter in their lives, thanks to the flight operation Dog Is My CoPilot and the Bend-based nonprofit rescue Street Dog Hero.

A day earlier, these 38 dogs “were sitting in a concrete ‘cell,’ and are now sleeping in warm beds and touching grass,” Street Dog Hero said in its Facebook post after the dogs’ arrival.

Most of the pups have foster homes, where they’ll stay until they are adopted, but Street Dog Hero said several still need fosters “where they can go chill after their long trip.” An application form is on their website.

Once the dogs have been neutered or spayed, SDH will have them on their website and available for adoption.

“All of these dogs are so sweet and loving,” they wrote, “and we can’t wait to see where their next chapter takes them!”

The organization also gave “another big shout-out” to all the foster homes that took in over 40 dogs in a week’s time, some from a shelter in Afghanistan. And said they are still looking for more foster homes in both Bend and Portland.
