Forest Service Road 12 temporarily closed next week at Lower Bridge in Metolius Basin for culvert repairs

U.S. Forest Service

SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ) — Forest Service Road 12, which provides access across the Metolius River, will be temporarily closed at its terminus with Forest Service Road 14 at Lower Bridge (also known as Bridge 99) in the Metolius Basin and the junction of Forest Service Roads 12 and 1270 while crews replace a failing road-stream crossing.

The closure will begin Monday, July 1, and last through Friday, July 5.

Access will not be available over the Metolius River using Lower Bridge (Bridge 99). Allingham Bridge along Forest Service Road 1217 at Allingham Campground can be used to cross the Metolius River.

Candle Creek Campground will be accessible by Forest Service Roads 12 and 1200-980.

The West Metolius River Trail will be closed starting at the intersection with Forest Service Road 12 and heading north for 1,000 feet.

Those hiking from Candle Creek Campground will not be able to access Lower Bridge. Road closure signs will be posted on the road and in the area.

This project replaces a failing culvert over one of the tributaries to the Metolius River. The forest road crew will be using heavy equipment to complete the project. Closures are in place for public safety.
