NY Times bestselling author Lisa See draws big crowd in Bend to discuss her latest book, ‘Lady Tan’s Circle of Women’
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – More than 400 people were at the Westside Community Center in Bend Monday night to catch New York Times bestselling author Lisa See talk about her latest book, Lady Tan's Circle of Women.
See said, “It is based on the story of a real woman, Yunxian, who was a woman doctor in China in the 1400s - 500 years ago. And when she turned 50, she wrote a book of her medical cases, and this book is still in print today - not just in Chinese, but also in English. And the reason is because so many of her remedies are still used in traditional Chinese medicine today.”
Many lined up anxiously waiting to meet Lisa See, snap a picture and get an autographed copy of her latest endeavor.
See says the books that she writes are really a reflection of her own culture and history.
“When I was a child and I looked around me, and what I saw were Chinese faces, what I experienced was Chinese culture, Chinese tradition, Chinese language, Chinese food," she recalled. "And that's why I write the kinds of books that I do.”
