Heat returns along with increased fire danger, isolated storms Saturday

KTVZ

The pattern is returning to the oppressive heat we experienced during most of July.  Highs will cross the century mark in a number of locations as we dry out. This combination is a recipe for extreme fire behavior and there is a Fire Weather Warning in place for portions of Deschutes and Jefferson Counties Friday as well as all of Crook County.  Spotty storms, although a very slight chance, may arrive late Saturday and provide more concern for our fire situation that is already record breaking.

There is a Heat Advisory until Friday evening for the east side of the Cascades and into the High Desert.  An Excessive Heat Warning is in place for NE Jefferson County as well.  Stay alert to the warning signs for heat related illnesses. A few symptoms are pale/clammy skin, nausea, headache, dizziness, and muscle cramps.  Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Saturday, with the chance for some showers and storms, we will be a bit “less hot” with highs in the low 90s. Sunday Central Oregon will be heating up once more as highs reach the middle to upper 90s. Dry and hot weather is on the docket for the first full week of August. Highs in the low 90s and plenty of sunshine.

Remember, we are still only about halfway through fire season. Be mindful of anything that may spark a wildfire or brushfire.
