Prineville woman arrested in Springfield on DUII, reckless driving charges after her 8-year-old child called 911 from back seat

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (KTVZ) – A Prineville woman was arrested in Springfield on several charges after her 8-year-old child called 911 from the car's back seat to report their mother was driving recklessly and looking for “water to drive into,” police said.

Officers were made aware around 8:30 p.m. last Sunday of a blue Subaru being driven recklessly through red lights, heading east on Beltline toward Springfield, police Public Information Coordinator Zak Gosa-Lewis said.

Shortly after an officer positioned themselves in the Gateway area, in case the car entered Springfield, the Subaru passed the officer, briefly yielded at a red light, then sped away when the officer tried to initiate a traffic stop.

The vehicle continued south on Pioneer Parkway West, weaving through traffic and driving dangerously, Gosa-Lewis said.

The driver, identified as Camie Colleen Sorensen, 43, of Prineville, abruptly stopped in the middle of the intersection at the Pioneer Parkway and Q Street, at which point officers approached the vehicle. While two officers took Sorensen into custody, a third removed the child who called 911 from the back seat.

Sorensen was booked into the Lane County Jail on charges of reckless driving, eluding police and reckless endangering. Court records show she was arraigned Monday on five charges: a Class C felony of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer in a vehicle reckless driving, DUII and two counts of recklessly endangering another person.

Sorensen is scheduled to return to court Sept. 20 for a hearing on a diversion petition
