Cool and dry pattern heading into the weekend, rain returns by Sunday

KTVZ

Most of the region will be enjoying the sunshine today after a day of light rain and drizzle. The rain and drizzle we very welcomed as the area has been dealing with dangerously poor air quality since the new fires began in the region last weekend. The rain and cooler weather really gave the firefighters the upper hand with the regional fires.

Most of the fires are still burning along the perimeter, but much more of a smoldering and creeping than the ravishing and devastating behavior experienced in the heat earlier this week.  The Sunriver region is breathing a sigh of relief today as the wild-land firefighters did an excellent job keeping the Little Lava fire from progressing east into the city.  The job is not done, but restrictions are working well. Containment perimeters are being reinforced and the lines are being maintained.

The forecast is calling for some dry and mild “fall-like” weather today through Saturday.  Mostly sunny days and clear and crisp nights are on the docket for most locations.  The next change in the pattern starts on Sunday when we see some light rain arrive from west. Mainly over the Cascades to start, but some showers are expected over the high desert late in the day.

An area of low pressure develops over the Great Basin in Nevada and will tap into some available moisture in the region and provide off and on rain through Monday. Another round of rain arrives on Tuesday from the west and that batch will be a bit more widespread and hopefully be a good soaking scenario for all of Oregon.
